Tuomas Ylinen (FI)

Tuomas Ylinen studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland with prof. H. Kiiski and M. Ylönen. Ylinen has also studied with prof. Y.-C. Cho at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, Germany. In addition, he has participated in the masterclasses of T. Mörk, G. Hoffman, St. Isserlis and F. Helmersson.

Ylinen won the Turku Cello Competition in 2002 and received a special award for the best performance of a piece by M. Lindberg. Two years later, he was a prizewinner in the prestigious Pablo Casals cello competition in Kronberg. He has performed both as soloist and in ensembles throughout Europe, Unted States, Japan, South Korea, China and United Arab Emirates.

As a soloist Ylinen has performed with all the major orchestras in Finland with such conductors as O. Kamu, M. Franck, J. Storgårds, Jorma Panula, V. Matwejeff, S. Mälkki, P. Inkinen, M. Stenz, G. Llewellyn, J. Carmeiro among others.

Ylinen has played as a solocellist in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra since 2007. He also performs regularly in a piano trio together with violinist P. Inkinen and pianist V. Resjan. The trio has performed in many prestigious concert halls, such as Wigmore Hall. The trio’s debut album was released in December 2006. Since 2013 Ylinen has been teaching young talented cellists in the Sibelius Academy.

Ylinen plays a Giovanni Grancino-cello from 1704.
