Theodor Sink
Theodor Sink is the principal cellist of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) and one of the most outstanding string soloists of his generation in Estonia.
He began his cello studies at Tallinn Music High School under the guidance of Laine Leichter and Leho Karin. He later continued at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Professor Henry-David Varema, as well as at the Sibelius Academy under Professor Marko Ylönen. In addition, he has participated in numerous masterclasses with renowned teachers, including Lluís Claret and Patrick Demenga.
Sink has worked closely with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Estonian Festival Orchestra. For his brilliant work as both a soloist and orchestral musician, he has been awarded the Annual Award of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia for Music. He has also won numerous top prizes at both national and international competitions.
He made his solo debut with ERSO in the spring of 2017, giving the world premiere of Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Cello Concerto (conductor Kristiina Poska, Estonian Music Days). He has since performed Lepo Sumera’s Cello Concerto with the Estonian Festival Orchestra and ERSO under the baton of Paavo Järvi and also appeared as a soloist with the Pärnu City Orchestra, Sinfonietta Rīga, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, and the New Street Orchestra.
As a chamber musician, he has performed on stage with numerous acclaimed international artists, including David Geringas, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Víkingur Ólafsson, Marina Ciche, Florian Donderer, Eva Bindere, and Nathan Braude.
For his prolific and high-level concert activity, he was named Performer of the Year (2020) by the Association of Estonian Professional Musicians. In 2021, he received the Young Musician Award from the Marje and Kuldar Sink Family Fund of the Kelam Foundation, awarded by the Pille Lill Music Fund.
