Estonian Percussion Group
Founded in 2020, Estonian Percussion Group brings together four outstanding Estonian percussionists: Karl Johann Lattikas, Lauri Metsvahi, Tiit Joamets, and Tanel-Eiko Novikov. The quartet’s repertoire spans the rich world of percussion music, ranging from Baroque works to rock-inspired pieces.
Percussion music offers a nearly limitless palette of sounds. With instrumental setups that vary drastically between pieces, every performance is uniquely captivating to watch and hear. This vast sonic world encompasses everything from virtuosic, rhythm-driven drumming to the delicate, meditative soundscapes of the marimba and vibraphone.
One of the ensemble’s artistic goals is to actively expand the percussion repertoire. To this end, the group collaborates closely with Estonian composers and commissions new works. Despite its relatively short history, the ensemble has already inspired several new compositions written especially for them by Pärt Uusberg, Alisson Kruusmaa, Robert Jürjendal, Kristjan Randalu, Siim Aimla, Riho Esko Maimets, Madli Marje Gildemann, Evelin Seppar, Liisa Hõbepappel, Peeter Vähi. The ensemble members themselves also contribute as arrangers and composers when needed.
The quartet made its debut in autumn 2021 in collaboration with Eesti Kontsert with a concert program titled "The Beauty of the Beat." Performances took place at Pärnu Concert Hall and the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn.
In late summer 2022, the ensemble performed in Germany at the international Buxtehude Music Festival.
In 2023, Estonian Percussion Group was selected to participate in the Estonian Cultural Endowment’s two-year residency program for instrumental ensembles.
In 2024, the ensemble toured Stockholm with a series of concerts.
On February 15, 2025, the ensemble accomplished a truly remarkable feat by performing in all ten of Estonia’s largest cities within just 24 hours.
